The good news for those looking to train and become a marine engineer is there is no shortage of opportunities to join the maritime industry as an engineer.
There is one clear route to kickstart your career in marine engineering; a Maritime Engineering Cadetship.
Much like an engineering apprenticeship, an marine engineering officer cadetship is a paid alternative to conventional academic higher education.
The three-year course encompasses classroom-based studies, sea placements and personal mentoring throughout.
Each Cadetship is sponsored by a marine charity or commercial maritime company.
Trainee Marine Engineering Officers who qualify will be provided with a wealth of opportunities that long term can be continued at sea or ashore.
