Women in Maritime

The Viking Maritime Group are proud to be supporting women in the Maritime Industry.
Whether that be through our fantastic Officer Cadetship Programme with Chiltern Maritime or working in other crucial roles at sea or ashore, we hope to break down the gender barriers that can sometimes be seen in the industry.

There are now a number of industry task forces that have been put together to increase the number of women in the maritime sector and address gender fairness and equality in the industry.

International Maritime Organisation

IMO supports gender equality and the empowerment of women through gender specific fellowships; by facilitating access to high- level technical training for women in the maritime sector in developing countries; by creating the environment in which women are identified and selected for career development opportunities in maritime administrations, ports and maritime training institutes; and by facilitating the establishment of professional women in maritime associations, particularly in developing countries.

She of the Sea

Combining the resources and network of the shore side industry, with the wealth of experience, knowledge and journeys of the women working at sea, we are realising the vision of a high performing, competency focused yachting industry, regardless of any other factors.

The aim is simple; to see our industry at its best. To move past the outdated status quo and propel ourselves into the future.

To embrace and cultivate, talent, passion and dedication regardless of factors such as gender, race, ethnicity or orientation.

Maritime UK

In 2018, Maritime UK established the Women in Maritime programme to address gender fairness, equality and inclusion within the maritime sector. A Taskforce was created to bring together leaders from across the maritime sector to identify practical steps to increase the number of women in maritime, and crucially within senior roles across its shipping, ports, marine and business services industries.
