Deck Cadet Harriet, is sailing on the state-of-the-art British Antarctic Survey RRS Sir David Attenborough, one of the most advanced polar research vessels in the world, with Maritime London.
“To be able to join this incredible vessel for my cadetship training is just a dream come true. I feel truly fortunate to be one of the Chiltern Maritime‘s Cadets. The whole team is just amazing, my training manager, Craig, is brilliant!
I’ve wanted to study a cadetship for many years now, and making the step from working to being a student again was incredibly scary for me, however, I could not feel more grateful to have fallen in the hands of Chiltern Maritime.”
The RRS Sir David Attenborough is an amazing vessel to learn on. The crew are going above and beyond in their willingness to teach us and I am having a fantastic learning experience so far. We have lots of drills and time divided between deck and bridge and also study time.”
Captain Ralph Stevens, RRS Sir David Attenborough, British Antarctic Survey said, “we consider this an investment in the next generation of seafarers and an opportunity to pass on our experience. We also have staff who have worked from undertaking their cadetships on a British Antarctic Survey vessel, all the way through to Master.
For those of us who have been at sea some time, sharing our knowledge is beneficial to both parties as we also benefit from the questions, explanations and analysis of what we do.”
