From Marine academy roots the UK’s foremost provider of cadetships

Chiltern was established as a Marine Cadet management company in 1986 to support Officer Cadets on behalf of a large oil company.

Over the year’s Chiltern has continued to set the standard within the industry and has supported thousands upon thousands of Cadets go on to become talented professionals and industry leaders.

With our emphasis on professionalism and service, coupled with our commitment to select and train young people, who possess an enthusiastic and practical approach to life, we have maintained and developed our working relationships with the leading UK and global maritime organisations.

  • 1986 - Chiltern Maritime was Incorporated

Established in 1986, Chiltern was initially set up to look after Officer Trainees on behalf of BP. With the first trainees progressing well, our services expanded to include the management of the Trinity House Scholarship Cadet Scheme, quickly followed by the Maritime London Officer Cadet Scholarship in 1992.

  • 2007 - Viking Recruitment bought Chiltern Maritime

Chiltern Maritime was purchased by Viking Recruitment (now Viking Crew) in 2007, and quickly expanded the Cadet numbers and variety of vessels on which the Cadets could complete their onboard training. This partnership successfully allowed Chiltern Cadets more valuable sea training experiences on yachts and cruise ships managed by Viking Recruitment.

  • 2008 - First Yacht Cadetship

Trinity House and UKSA started the first Yacht cadetship, designed to offer limited Yacht OOW.

  • 2009 - First Maritime Educational Foundation

In 2009, we saw the first Maritime Educational Foundation for Cadets, which has steady increase in numbers every year.

  • 2016 - New Yacht Cadetship

We consistently look for new areas to assist Cadets in their future career aspirations, and Chiltern along with Warsash Maritime Academy designed a new Yacht Cadetship to serve the large commercial yacht section and offer Unlimited CoC to this yacht section.

  • 2017 - Döhle Yachts Partnership

The Yacht Cadetship attracted large interest within the yachting industry, and we entered a contract for services with our first yacht management company (Manta Maritime) and in 2017 this was followed up with a partnership with Döhle Yachts to sponsor their own cadets on this scheme.

  • 2017 - Chiltern Maritime Re-brand

In 2017, Chiltern Maritime underwent a total re-brand in order to convey the value of our brand, the variety and quality we offer, and successfully reflect who we are today.
