Through us and your association with our prestigious sponsors, you will receive some of the best training available to the British Merchant Navy today. With an emphasis firmly placed upon on gaining a wealth of experience on a range of vessels trading worldwide, you will be provided with an all round view of the industry, allowing you to decide which direction to take after your training is completed.

With your tuition and fees funded, as well as the allocation of a monthly bursary, your training will be completed in association with bespoke maritime training establishments within the UK, ensuring that you will be well prepared for your practical training onboard and eventual qualification to Officer of the Watch (OOW) standard.

Deck, Engine or Electro-Technical – which direction?

There are three main areas in which you can train – Deck , Engine or Electro-Technical

• Deck Officers maintain watches on the bridge at sea and about the ship in port. They are responsible for passage planning, the safe navigation of the ship, cargo loading and discharge, ship stability, communications and the maintenance of the hull and deck equipment.
• Engineering Officers are responsible for the maintenance and operation of the ship’s main propulsion machinery, deck machinery, air conditioning plants, refrigeration plants, and domestic and electrical services. Depending on the type of ship and operational circumstances, Engineer Officers will be required to keep watches in the ship’s Engine Room.
• Electro-Technical Officers are specialist officers working within the Engineering Department where they take particular responsibility for the maintenance of on board control engineering and electronic systems including propulsion control, radio communications and electronic navigation aids.

Foundation Degree in Marine Operations, Marine Engineering or Marine Electrical/Electronic Engineering

Suitable for candidates who possess the above criteria, but who will also have or expect to attain a minimum of 120 UCAS points through A Levels or their equivalents, preferably in Mathematics or Physics.

Honours Degree in Nautical Science or Marine Engineering

Suitable for candidates who possess the above criteria, but who will also have or expect to attain the admission requirements of the university or college were they wish to study. A minimum of 200 UCAS points (in accordance with the requirements of the sponsoring company) through A Levels or their equivalents, including Mathematics or Physics.
